This land was overly quite, too quite. What is being plotted here? Have aliens abducted everyone? Or were they scared away by ghosts? Possibly they were eaten by a lake monster! A dark form slinked through the tight collection of trees, the faint markings over his body making him melt into the dark foliage stripped by shadow and sunlight. The body was tall and thin, legs seemingly too long for the small stump of body that held his blood and guts. HA! Maybe if he found a trail of blood and guts then it would lead him to the lake monster! His catlike movements ceased as his small skull raised, bright emerald green eyes scanning over the land spread out before him. Everything was so...green and bright, it didn't look like any sort of battle had gone on here. "Darn..." His slightly squeaked voice was huffed as his lips pursed in a light pout. How much was it to ask for a stud to come across a little gruesome action. Eww...Stud. That meant he had to touch femmes. YUK! No he wasn't a stud, he was a beast! Something to be feared.
A strange glint before him caught the 'beasts' eye and he squinted at it curiously. A cloud moving out of the way of the sun had caused the light to fall upon the reflective surface of some water. A lake? Yes! Maybe there was a lake monster after all! It was the third best option after aliens and ghosts. The beast puffed out his chest in a proud manner as he strode out of his shelter. He would go and slay the lake monster, then everybody would know and admire him! His eyes closed as muzzle was upturned in a prince like manner before his breath caught in his throat. Emerald eyes flew open as his small colt hoof got entangled with a root peeking from the earth. A helpless foalish scream passed soft black lips as he fell forth into the dirt, chest nape and scalp getting covered in dirt and moss. What was that!? Something had attacked him! He struggled to his feet, feeling slightly panicky as the creature clung to his hoof. "It's got me!" He cried out as he struggled to get himself free, finally managing to escape the monsters grip, his own momentum sending him flipping over onto his back before tumbling away.
His eyes were closed tightly as he lay upon the ground. Am I dead? I don't see a bright light Slowly he peeked them open, his eyes instantly meeting the land he was in before his 'brush with death'. He struggled back to his feet, shaking himself vigorously to dislodge the dirt that clung to him though mud was still caked upon his forelegs, chest and face. Okay! Where is that beast!? He frowned lightly as he turned, looking at the world determinedly before spotting the root that had tripped him. "You! How dare you pull such tricks on me!" He lept forth at the root, pouncing upon it with small sharp hooves, drumming at it relentlessly before he felt himself get caught once more. "Let go!" He demanded angrily, pulling back and falling onto his haunches as his hoof was freed, sitting there like a wolf, angrily eying his rival.

My nosed sensed some animal here. Who's here? Will I be able to fight? Confidence left me to be a wimpy little horse. I took a break to smell the ground to maybe figured out who was here. I heard I thud. What ever is making that noise is coming my way! What am I to do? When I came out of the thicket and trees what I saw was the craziest thing ever. There was a cute foal fighting a TREE... I laughed silently. He is crazy. What is he thinking fighting a tree? A TREE!
I made my way over to him and ask him politely, "Umm... What are you up to fighting a tree? You know he can't hurt you. Maybe next time you should look at where you are placing your feet first so it won't happen again." This brindle colt was so strange. Now he was sitting on his haunches looking like he was so dumb. Again I laughed silently but figured the lady like thing would to ask him some questions. "If you don't mind my asking, are you hurt? What is your name? Lastly how old are you? They call me Little Lena and I am only eight months old. I left my herd at six month or a weanling. Now it is your turn." I stood there watching him and waiting for his reply. I bet he thinks he looks stupid right now in front of a filly. He isn't much taller than me. Interesting. Maybe he is about my age. Is he shy to talk to me?
For a few minutes I waited but then decided to go get a drink. Of course the only way to go to the pond was to pass by this colt and the tree roots. I walked toward the roots. When I reached them I kicked them before stepping over them like a lady. What if he tries to claim land against those bigger stallions. I wonder what the outcome would be. The image of him trying to fight a full grown horse was a very funny one. When I reached the pond's edge I spread my legs out as my neck was shorter than my legs and took a sip. Not bad water at all. In fact quite sweet. I took more and more swallows of water. It was very replenishing. "You know you should join me down here. Let's have a drink together." What I really wanted to see was him trip and fight the roots again. He was just too crazy while not being to crazy for me.

His bright emerald eyes bore into the tree root as though he could paralyze it with his gaze. It may have won the last two rounds but he was certain he would have the last laugh! He was so absorbed in his stare off with the hunk of wood that he didn't notice the filly approach him. Her sudden tones that broke his concentration made him jump and he almost toppled over backwards again instead this time he manage to stay upright in his sitting position, glaring slightly at the filly. It wasn't a heated glare of hatred or anger, more of embarrassment that he tried to cover with toughness. She knew nothing about trees! They were dangerous. One day they were going to take over the world, seriously, look at their population numbers!
He got his hind hooves back under him as he stood, raising his skull higher than the fillies, straining his nape as he did so. Who did she think she was? She wasn't so smart! She was just a stupid filly, fillies had germs! He flicked his skull, sending his forelock behind his poll, the combination of white, gray and black hairs standing out vibrantly against his rough foal coat (Well what little mane he had anyway.)
"I did not start it! The tree has a mind of its own!" There was certain defiance in his voice as he tried to ignore the fillies other words. His eyes followed her as she walked past him, flicking his little stub of a tail at her in an immature manner as he silently repeated what she said in a mocking manner. God she spoke so much. What was she? A bloody crow? Those things never shut up. They're kinda creepy too. Was she mocking me when she kicked at the enemy root? Or was she playing? But this wasn't a game! It could easily be a matter of life and death!...If the tree was a carnivore. His attention was taken back to the filly as she spoke once more and he turned, careful of the root. His chest was puffed out and his skull held high as he made his way slowly toward the lake. "Why would I tell you any of that? You could have intentions to kill me!" He huffed lightly as he waded into the water, eyes searching the surface before he pounced forth, his hooves coming down on a spot where he had previously seen a silver slither though it danced away from his hooves easily. Again I laughed in my head. He thinks the tree is alive and trying to KILL him. I mean trees ARE alive but they only grow. They don't have feelings or thoughts. This colt doesn't have a brain anymore. Again I took another look at him. He had waded into the pond and tried to catch something. Of course I found it funny when he didn't get it. I took his words in. Ok so he doesn't want to tell me anything because now apparently I am going to kill him. Everyone knows a filly or mare isn't supposed to fight. Well with the exception of this colt. I knew my wording now to tell him the truth. "Um sir, most horses KNOW that a filly or mare isn't supposed to fight or kill the males that protect them. I don't even know HOW to fight so there is no way I could kill you. Also trees do NOT have thoughts or feelings. I don't know WHY you think that tree is going to hurt you. Maybe you should have your brain checked." In a sense I was teasing him. I was playing around with him just to see how smart he was.
I too waded into the pond. I wanted to be close to him hoping that maybe he would start enjoying my company. I looked straight into the glassy pond and saw the silvery thing this colt was trying to catch. With a quick movement of my hoof I caught him and the bottom of the pond. "Did you want this silvery thing? I have him right under my hoof as I caught him. You'll have to come and get him though." I was tempting this poor colt and teasing him. I didn't feel bad for him though. I was just trying to get to know him a bit more. We were both youngings after all.

What was this filly thinking? Had she come to further mock him? She was daft if she didn't believe the possibility that the trees could be alive and plotting, after all, how many things are upon this world (and outside of its reach if we're going to be on this topic) that we didn't know about? Don't tell him she was one of those equines whom only believed it was real if you could see it. Those, he considered, were some of the stupidest equines out there. His black and white flecked ears settled against his nape in an offended manner, small tuff of multi hued mane tickling the sensitive appendages. "What gives you the right to say my brain needs to be checked!? I think yours should be checked! Anything can fight or kill, even a tree!" He turned his head away as he huffed, his eyes scanning the trees at the edge of the large pond. What right had she to consider him stupid or crazy? What did she know? She was only a little older than himself so she didn't have that much knowledge to lord over him. "Stupid" He huffed quietly to himself.
He ignored the filly as she wadded into the pond, his emerald eyes moving over the reflective surface, eying the pebbles at the bottom of the still water which rippled with the fillies movements, trying to spot the silver lake monster once more. He was glad of the ripples that distorted his image for he could never bring himself to look to his reflection without feeling his insides plummet with a sense of loss and longing. He had been kicked out of his herd because of how he looked, they all seemed to think he was diseased or cursed and as a result it affected his mind so harshly he couldn't think positively about his appearance. That was the reason why he let his mind wander into great and unexplained adventures, to rip himself away from reality. His attention was snapped back to the filly as she spoke, his eyes moving down to the hoof extended before her, apparently hiding the lake monster under it. He cautiously moved forth, not completely trusting the fillies motives, his muzzle twitching as he lowered his skull to the surface of the pond, waiting in curiosity and cautiousness for her to move her hoof.

I lifted my hoof off the silvery creature. Before I let this foal have it though I took a bite of it to make sure it wasn't poisonous. "I really must protest to what you are telling me. I really don't believe I am the stupid one. I am sure you didn't think I could hear it but I can. Also I don't think that most things can fight. Firstly I am VERY certain that trees do not come alive and you could ask another horse if they did and the only answer you'd get is the one I am giving you. Next, you really really must talk to some wise horse and still not everything is alive. Your brain is cursed and I am sorry to say it. I do believe that your the stupid one." I spoke my mind and then stood in the water not making a single move. I loved seeing my reflection it was like seeing another you.
I found this colt quite strange. I almost didn't want to be near him. After a while I decided I was sick of the water so I walk out to the dry land. Of course making sure to go over the branch to prove my point. I kicked the tree and it didn't move. "See there? This tree is NOT alive." Under my breath or maybe it was in my head I said "Get a new brain you idiot." I went to the edge of the tree and looked back once before disappearing behind some trees. From there I watched him. Right now I just wanted to watch him.
