The glow of the mighty sun's rays seemed to warm the air with its very touch of hot friction. The ball of fire had banished every cloud from the sky as if his view of the Earth should not be marred with useless wisps of white fluff. The indigo sky seemed almost dull by comparison, for its brightness had been dimmed by the sun's majestic streams of golden banners. Its blueness was a sulky dimmed pale, weeping its dullness in acres far away, on grounds more forgiving. The sun's long fingers, simmering with heat and glowing like a thousand torches reached down to touch the Earth's fertile surface. The green plants seemed to shiver in return, happy to be warmed under the sun. The low fog that had covered the waving fronds of grass had now fled to darker, colder regions of the world, leaving the grass to stretch up with eagerness and to enjoy the heat on their tender tips. The mist curled reluctant hands around the juniper bushes, as if taking refuge from the hungry sun. The defiance didn't last very long and as the scorching rays flicked away the shadows and filtered through the thick leaves and limbs of the bushes, the mist retreated hurriedly, promising to be back in the safety of night. Then, no burning gold would chase them and the moon's silver glow would caress their trailing blanket.
All the animals, who were diurnal, crept out of their tunnels and holes. They were just as eager to feel the warmth on their backs and discover the sights and smells that awaited them on such a warm newleaf's morn. A new rabbit litter hopped from their hole and peered with wide eyes at the bright colors that suddenly bloomed in their just developed eyes. A nettlesome squirrel scampered up the sandy hill and only stopped to titter and giggle at the babies' before continuing on his way. A robin swooped low over the ground and halted, just beyond the little rabbits to investigate a worm's tunnel. After a few moment's exploration, he came up with a fat, wiggling worm and took off, chirping his pride to himself as he flew towards his waiting mate. Farther away, a fat grass snake stretched out on the sand, enjoying a few moment's rest on the warmth and his belly full of crickets and bugs before returning to his shady spot under the juniper bushes. The sun watched the Earth's animals, moving about with purpose and a daily activity in their lives and their minds knowing little more than systematic ways of finding food, shelter, and protection. The tall black stallion was, too, looking for a kind of shelter and protection though techniquely, he hoped that the land he found would provide a hidden and well-protected realm. There, he could create the perfect place, safe, calm, and quiet, for his mares.
His hooves moved in perfect cadence, flowing easily over the ground. The soil was becoming more and more rocky and as the stag looked up, he could see snow-capped mountains. They looked like blinding beacons, glaring out against the indigo sky. Their grey stone bases were dull in contrast, yet they created a strong barrier to invaders. Sinistra picked his way carefully, following a small pathway through the mountains. Gravel crunched under his hooves and the gritty sound bounced back from the stone sides that surrounded him. The midnight black stag moved warily, placing his hooves with care on the uneven ground. Suddenly, the path ended and Sinistra was staring down at a beautiful valley. Lush, emerald grass ran down the entire length, except for several large splotches of brown and darker green where forests grew. Silver-blue streams flowed down the sides of the mountains like silver veins across a green hand. Sinistra felt delight warm his shivering skin. The heightened cold was beaten back by the promise of a perfect homeland. This could be it!? He thought with excitement flooding his mind. Pebbles flew from his hooves as he trotted down, eagerness starting to overwhelm his senses.
The stag stumbled and instantly slowed, knowing that if he rushed, he might end up at the bottom much faster than he had warranted. Once he had reached the bottom, Sinistra broke into a trot and inspected everything through a wondering eye. The silver streams chuckled merrily as they brushed past the grass. The streams would provide clean, cool water as it ran from the cold mountains. There was plenty of grass to feed an entire herd of mares and foals. The clumps of trees would give shelter to any who sought it. A broad laugh rippled from his kissers as the stag reared unto his pistons. Wind blasted through his tassels and threw them into disarray. Their black silkiness rippled and danced with the sunlight dancing off of it. Exultation flooded through him and made him laugh again. Sinistra launched into a speeding run, long pistons pumping furiously. He flew over the grasses, an unwinged Pegasus. His incredibility at finally finding the perfect place thrust him into a leaping jump. His body arched and made a graceful curve before he landed and wheeled, spinning on the supple hinds. Sinistra half-reared again and his orbs gleamed.
"I claim this land, Twin Peeks, as its Lord. I am Sinistra, son of Sharra, and I fear no one! This is my realm now!" His vocal cords vibrated with the force that he pushed the lyrics out. An almost taunting smile danced on his midnight features.
